Wood Flooring

[ADSENSE_0000000060]Wood flooring is a timeless flooring material that remains very popular today. Wood flooring brings a feeling of warmth and beauty to a room like no other type of flooring is able to do. Wood floors can bring a rich feeling of quality and formality to a room. This type of flooring is also very durable and can last the lifetime of a house if taken care of properly.

Sometimes wood flooring is called "hardwood floors" as a general term.  But wood floors can be made of many different types of wood, soft and hard alike.  The most common wood used is white or red oak.  Other woods used include pine, cherry, mahogany, bamboo, and maple.  The different textures and grains of each of these woods can provide many different looks for a wood floor.

Wood flooring goes well with many different types of home decorating styles. Wood floors are a great look for a formal dining room of any decor stye, a traditional living room, or a contemporary kitchen.  Depending on the style of a home, wood flooring may look nice installed throughout an entire house to bring a look of continuity between rooms.

With all of the advantages of hard wood floors, there are a few disadvantages to consider.  Wood flooring can be expensive, so be sure to take into account all the expenses involved (materials, installation, etc.) It is also important to consider the care involved with wood flooring to make it last a long time. If wood flooring is installed in a heavy traffic area that is exposed to a lot of moisture (spills, water tracked in from outdoors), the wood can stain and show signs of wear. This can be avoided and minimized if a proper waterproof finish is put on the floor to protect it.
